Two people are better than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble! A person alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back to back and conquer.
Ecclesiastes 4:9 and 12
As we strive to express the love of Jesus Christ to all people, we hope to help them move toward social wholeness. We want the people we serve to know they can count on us in their time of need. Relationships are key to any success story, and we endeavor to build relationships with all the people we serve, even if the time we spend with them is brief.
When you walk through the doors at Children’s Village, it’s obvious that it’s a special place. Incorporating the accredited HighScope curriculum, teachers prepare students for lifelong learning. Teachers also instill social skills that put students in good stead for kindergarten and beyond. A very special offering at Children’s Village is intergenerational programming, a time when students enjoy fun and friendship with residents of Lutheran Life Villages. This joining of the generations enriches and enhances each child’s social well-being.
Since 1901, we’ve worked to build relationships with the families that have chosen to adopt children through our services. Since then, we’ve grown to offer lifetime services to both birth parents and adoptive families. Our adoption clients know they can rely on us to help them overcome any challenges they may face.
In partnership with community volunteers, we offer an eight-week mentoring program to people who want to take control of their finances. During these classes, mentors, volunteers, and clients form relationships that can have a life-changing impact. Clients learn to make better financial decisions, and that can mean a brighter future for themselves and their families.
Education Creates Hope and Opportunity serves pregnant teens, guiding them toward graduation. Nationally, only 40 percent of pregnant teens graduate from high school. ECHO clients have a 90-percent graduation rate because we build relationships with our teens. We understand the obstacles our clients face, and we help them meet every challenge. Without ECHO and the relationships we have with our clients, the drop-out rate for pregnant teens in this city would be much higher.
