LSSI, Habitat, volunteers combine to help fix up home

Lutheran Social Services of Indiana, Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County, and Men Following Christ recently joined forces on a home-improvement project for a Silver Lake family in need.

It began when Lisa Smith, an LSSI caseworker in the Community Partners program, recognized that the home of one of her client families needed significant upgrades before it would be truly habitable. Among other things, the home needed new siding.

Lisa contacted Christon Clark, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County, to see if his organization could help. Habitat responded with a donation of eight boxes of siding.

Next came the group Men Following Christ, which donated $500 and provided approximately 30 volunteers to install the siding and new windows. A representative from Lowe’s also joined in.

“This is an amazing sharing of resources between organizations to help a family in need,” says Libby Martin, LSSI supervisor. “It’s amazing what can be accomplished when good people come together to help their neighbors.”
